Mate is a subtropical, evergreen tree, that grows to a height of 20m, native in parts of Brazil, Argentina, Bolivia, Uruguay and Paraguay. Dried leaves are used to make a tea, a historically important drink in Central and South America. Mate is a tonic and stimulant.
Medicinal uses; It is used against headaches and migraines, and as a digestive aid. It is also said to have anthelmintic, diuretic, mild laxative and cardiotonic qualities.
